Position Description
The Citizen Review Board (CRB) is made up of 5 members per board who review foster care cases. Each board meets once a month on Thursday afternoons and holds up to three hearings. There are currently four CRB’s.
The commitment is for one Thursday afternoon a month from 12:45 to 4:30pm. A packet is prepared for study of the cases. You are responsible to pick up your packet about a week before the hearing. Your reading/studying time will vary with the complexity of the case.
Training is approximately 12 hours. In addition you will need to observe a CRB Hearing and a juvenile court hearing. Depending upon the timeframe, CASA training it utilized to cover similar material.
Upon receipt of your application the screening process will begin. This process consists of a personal interview, a criminal history background check, and an SRS Abuse/Neglect Registry check. It usually takes two to three months to complete the process and provide the training.
In order to protect children and provide the court with qualified volunteers, a fingerprint based national criminal history record will be conducted on every CRB applicant. The Office of Judicial Administration will submit your fingerprints and receive the report on your criminal history investigation. Applicants determined ineligible to serve as volunteers based on their criminal history background investigation will have the opportunity to verify their identity with the Office of Judicial Administration and to appeal this determination with the Chief Judge of the Judicial District or his or her designee. Applicants who do not provide fingerprints for criminal history background checks will not be approved to serve as CRB volunteers.
